Urban Retreat . Lisbon . Portugal

The Tagus River illuminates the vibrant neighbourhood. Light enters the original house, adding dynamism and essence. The passing waters are revealed, and irreverent pieces stand out, such as the sideboard lined with wallpaper and adorned with green glass Indian handles. The domain of varied greens drew inspiration from the garden corridors outside. The timeless beauty of the materials is revealed in the texture of the stones and woods. The soft fabrics cosy up to the serenity of the river waters. Old World palm leaves brings an organic movement inside. There is a quiet structured contrast. On the huge sofa there are notes that break up the mysteries of white. There are flowers on the table. And then there are the French-inspired benches in front.

Nearby, the iconic Eames lounge chair has been upholstered in green leather to make it even more unique.

At the dinner table, where experiences and disquiet will be shared, there is the green that calms the days. It is in this lively tone, present in the small and large details, that the house reveals itself. In the kitchen, the place where meals are lovingly prepared, light fittings made from earth dusts have been suspended and have unwittingly stolen the white of the curtains to internalise them. They chat on the counter stools, maintaining the serenity of the river. The apples have arrived from the local market, and they now stare at the boards waiting for that moment in the morning.

In the master bedroom everything calms down. The peace felt was brought about by the pure whites that silently communicate with the penetrating tones of the noble woods. The hanging lamps and the blanket over the bed ensure intimacy.

In the office, the stripes on the wallpaper are reminiscent of continuity, but now it’s the blues that are in charge. A lounge chair, reminiscent of a nest, which is cosy for reading and doesn’t disturb studies or projects that will be set up in the future. To the side, you can feel the impassive waters passing by the balcony. The white linen curtains, broken by the vivid blue, let you see the light around you.

The youngest’s room floats between architectural elements and ‘joy’. The grey tones are freshened up by the presence of the more feminine green, the hat, the flowers, the pictures…

The relationship with the outdoors is great, the balconies are generous and allow family and friends to get together to celebrate life.
